Anyone who rented a car in Spain last summer (2009) will know that car rental prices were very high – almost twice what they had been in previous years. Additionally there were many less cars available so those who arrived here expecting to be able to rent a car without pre-booking found there were none available.

Due to the European financial crisis car rental companies in Spain, who usually beef up their fleet during the high season by hiring in cars from elsewhere, were unable to get the credit to do so resulting in less cars available and therefore much higher prices for the cars they did have.

This situation is expected to repeat itself in 2010 so it is recommended, if you’re coming here to Spain on holiday, to book your car hire as far in advance as possible ensuring not only that you will have a car but also getting a better price for it than you would if you wait until the last minute.
