CORDOBA PROVINCE

Córdoba is known for its production of sherry-like white wine and olive oil. Cordoba city was founded by the Romans due to its strategic location on the Guadalquivir River, which was used for shipping the olive oil and wine back to Roman. In the 10th century city the became the western capital of the Islamic empire and a great "Mesquita" or Mosque was built which became one of the largest in Islam. Later the Christians built the "Alcazar" or Fortress in 1328.
